Volleyball Tasman and Volleyball New Zealand set high standards for referees at both local and national events. To get started on your refereeing adventure and work your way up the ranks, there is a systematic process that awaits you.

The first step is the "LOCAL" Referee level. This certification enables you to officiate at Tasman Championship events, VNZ Junior level Championships (South Island Juniors), and Senior Level Championships (National Secondary School Senior). In fact, this level is a minimum requirement for anyone involved in any duty, including coaches of participating teams.

Next, you'll delve into understanding the intricacies of the VNZ Scoresheet. Mastering this aspect is crucial, as all Championship events utilize variations of the VNZ Scoresheet.

At Volleyball Tasman, we offer an exceptional opportunity for Junior age players once a year in Term 3 / 4 to undertake the "Complete Local Referee" course. This comprehensive full-day course covers the essential referee components in the morning and dives into the intricacies of the scoresheet in the afternoon. Not many regions provide such a unique and comprehensive learning experience, making this a fantastic chance to kickstart your referee journey.

After completing the course, you'll need to wait for a year before advancing to the next level, as part of the Referee Pathway, which is designed to provide you with a structured and rewarding progression:
